Last month we held a back-to-school bash, and I want to thank the pastor and first lady of the church that opened their doors to us for it.
It was a good day. The kids jumped around in the bounce house, ate hot dogs and ice cream, and had a great time. We had health screenings for children, health information, giveaways, and public health contacts on hand. If you've ever tried to get a child in this district to a screening, you know what it means to have the screening come to the child instead.
That's not a campaign event, really. That's what I think health care ought to look like around here — going where people already are, in a church hall on a Saturday, instead of asking a family without a reliable car to drive forty minutes on a weekday.
One more thing happened that day that stayed with me. We talked to so many people who needed to register to vote. Not people who didn't want to vote — people who wanted to and weren't registered.
So let me say it here too: please register to vote. It's important. Go to sos.mo.gov, or ask me for one of my cards and there's a link on it. The deadline for the November election is Wednesday, October 7.
Thank you again to the Macklins for opening their doors. God bless you.
